Looking for inspiring, Biblically faithful Christmas resources for your classroom or assemblies? Here’s a selection of our favourite materials to help bring the Christmas story to life. (Please note, each organisation offers additional resources worth exploring.)
Scripture Union
• ‘The Grumpy Owl and the Joy of Christmas’ A free, page-turn animation and downloadable resource pack with event ideas and reflections for primary-aged children. Bible Society (England & Wales)
• ‘The Shiny Bright, Sparkling Light’ : Free 9-minute video reading for primary children and a downloadable nativity play.
Scottish Bible Society
• Must Know Bible Stories: Free teaching packs, lesson plans, story trails, quizzes, and a nativity play (The New King) with interactive activities for lessons or assemblies
RE Quest
• Bible Quest: Resources for KS1/2 (Nativity Story), KS3 (Why Christmas Matters to Christians), and KS4/5 (The Incarnation).
Robyn Welsley
• ‘Christmas: What’s in a Name?‘ video by Robyn Welsby is really excellent, looking at the anticipation of Christ and could be used for an assembly or Time for Reflection
Scottish Bible Society
• The Scottish Bible Society, as part of their Must Know Bible Stories series, have a produced a Christmas pack for Assemblies and Nativity Plays
CVE Scotland
• CVE Scotland’s Chaplaincy Project Leader Steve Younger’s ‘Seasons’ booklet has 10 detailed outlines for Christmas assemblies and his YouTube channel features short videos which can be reproduced yourself.
Faith in Kids
• Faith in Kids, in conjunction with The Good Book Company and Go Chatter, have created The Christmas Story Brick by Brick -a 3-week Sunday school series with lesson plans and visuals, in partnership with The Good Book Company
Youthscape
• Jesus:Truth or Fairytale: A free video exploring the reality of the Christmas story, suitable for small groups, assemblies, or sharing digitally.
The Bible Project
• The Bible Project website has a collection of Christmas videos including Luke in 40 Languages and a guide to the meaning of Advent – Advent Season: What Is It, and How Is It Celebrated?
