Oversubscribed secondary schools drops.

he number of secondary schools with too many pupils has halved in the past decade amid the rise in new schools, official figures show.

Figures released by the Department for Education (DfE) today show that 96,000 new school places have been created in England in the past year.

This takes the total number created since 2010 to 921,000 and means that the government is on track to create an extra one million school places nationwide between 2010 and 2020.

Between 2004 and 2010, there was a reduction of 100,000 school places, sparking the DfE campaign to tackle the problem of “oversubscribed” schools.
