Dear Rt Hon Damian Hinds MP,
Re: Final Report of the Commission on Religious Education
Thank you for your reply in response to my letter to you about the Final Report of the Commission on Religious Education.
I have read your letter of response on the Final Report to The Very Reverend Doctor John Hall Chair of the Commission on Religious Education date 6th December 2018.
I have also read the Religious Education Council response (dated 15th December 2018) to your letter of 6th December.
As a member of the Religious Education Council I have not been consulted on this response.
Thank you for taking note of my other representations to you on the Final Report and those that I know many have made.
Thank you for not agreeing to change the law on Religious Education at this time.
Now that you have taken that helpful decision there is much we can do as an RE community to improve both the quality and coverage of RE in our schools.
One of the things we can do is to celebrate and showcase the work of successful Standing Advisory Councils on Religious Education(SACRE). Hopefully then those SACRE that are struggling can be supported. (It maybe that some ring fenced monies could be found to support this work).
Whilst I understand that OFSTED has its own agendas I feel it does have a responsibility to report in its inspections whether a school is fulfilling the requirements of the law in respect of Religious Education as it does for other subjects.
Thank you again for your response to Final Report on Religious Education
