Oxford University's head has spent £70,000 on expenses.

Oxford University’s head, who insisted that vice-Chancellors have modest salaries compared to footballers, has spent £70,000 on expenses since she was appointed last year, figures show.

Professor Louise Richardson's air travel alone has cost £56,522 since she took up the post in January 2016, meaning each of her round trips come to an average of £2,174.

The figures, obtained by Oxford's student newspaper Cherwell under a freedom of information request, revealed that she had claimed almost £10,000 in accommodation costs so far.
