NAHT recruit new General Secretary

Recruitment of our new general secretary is well under way. Following an exhaustive selection process, a unanimous decision was made by the recruitment panel at a meeting on 27 April, with Paul Whiteman identified as the preferred candidate. Russell Hobby announced his intention to stand down from the role in January, having been the NAHT's general secretary for the last seven years.

Paul Whiteman

A familiar face to many NAHT members and officials, Paul currently works for the association as the Director of Representation and Advice, with responsibility for advising members on management, legal and employment issues.

For the last five years he has been on the frontline of protecting school leaders, and heading up our network of regional officers. Paul has also been heavily involved in leading local campaigning on assessment and funding, through the regional review.

Before joining NAHT, Paul spent a decade as a national official at the FDA, the union for senior civil servants. Paul has a deep understanding of the issues that face education leaders today, and in addition brings many years’ experience of the wider trade union movement.
