Religion, Faith and the UK Education System.

The Policy-UK Forum:

Religion, Faith and the UK Education System

Morning, Tuesday, 1st December 2015

Central London

A year on from the DfE’s published guidance on promoting British values in schools, this forum will assess the place religion and faith have in our schools, the challenges multiculturalism poses for Headteachers and how religion can play a role in creating a cohesive society for the future.

Sessions will look at why faith schools have their excellent reputation with parents - what they are doing right, and what can be replicated by others – as well as the alternative argument of whether their selective nature fosters division in 21st Century, multicultural Britain.

Delegates will also examine what the exclusion of RE from the reintroduction of the EBacc will mean for a subject which is, fundamentally, at the heart of delivering the Government’s anti-extremism agenda as well as discuss the current state of religious education across all schools ahead of the changes to the RE GCSE.

Time has also been allocated for discussion of collective worship, including how to ensure academies and free schools are following Government guidance and how the teaching of “British values” fits into the whole landscape.

Key issues in short:

  • The current state of Religious Education, including changes to GCSEs and the reintroduction of the EBacc;
  • The place of faith schools in society- collective worship, selectivity and whether they are a positive for multiculturalism; and
  • British values, community cohesion and an inclusive curriculum – how use schools to create a tolerant society.

Places (including course materials and refreshments) are: £250.00 (+VAT), however, ACT members are eligible for a 40% discount with the promotional code: RACTA0. You can find further information about the event and book your place via our website here or by getting in touch with Alex Kenney via
