Faith Sensitive Relationships and Sex Education Can Help!

 

 

RE Matters in conjunction with REALationships, have created a one day training course for teachers and educators involved in pastoral care, school policy and the planning or delivery of Relationships and Sex Education in Schools.

Course Objectives & Outcomes:

  • Consider how faith sensitive SRE (or RSE as it’s becoming more commonly known) fits into the government and OFSTED requirements for FUNDAMENTAL BRITISH VALUES, SMSC and other OFSTED criteria
  • Learn how to deliver faith sensitive RSE and what this means in practice
  • Be aware of the legal requirements for RSE policies and up to date government guidance
  • Gain resources and ideas that can be used in both primary and secondary settings

 

Course Leaders:

Claire Clinton currently works with schools across Newham leading professional development around RE, Collective Worship, SMSC, British Values, P4C and coaching and mentoring.  Claire as an advisory teacher has over 16 years’ experience, working in Essex, Redbridge and Newham, as well as nationally for the DfE, QCDA, TDA and RE Today services.  She is passionate about children and young people being given the tools to be able to learn from and about religious and philosophical beliefs.

She has written and produced award winning books for Harper Collins, John Murray and Christian Aid, and frequently writes for national publications on RE and collective Worship.  Recently she has worked with RE Today as a consultant on their faith sensitive relationships primary pack called Body and Soul.

 

 

Jo Sell has been a specialist teacher of Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) for 8 years, building on her 25 years teaching experience delivering mostly life skills and PSHE. She also lectures at the IOE and has recently delivered a paper: Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) in multi-cultural, multi-religious settings: the struggle for human rights, at the International Centre for Education and Democratic Citizenship conference. Presently, she is researching faith sensitive delivery of RSE with the Institute of Education (IOE) at University College London.

 

Additionally, she manages the ‘REALationships Education Team’ at the Alternatives Trust, East London and also the ‘Faith, Relationships and Young People’s’ website; www.fryp.org.uk the critically acclaimed relationship website for young people of faith.

 

Course costs £165 to those who subscribe to ‘RE Matters’, £199 non-subscriber cost.  Course materials and lunch are included in the price.
