Church Walk in London

Wearing another of his hats, ACT Treasurer Geoff Coggins has been busy organising the 34th Unlock London Walk.  This year’s walk is in the Battersea/Clapham area, and one of the seven checkpoint churches is Holy Trinity, Clapham Common, with links to the “Clapham Sect”, William Wilberforce and the establishment of the Bible Society.  The whole walk is about seven miles, and participants will see seven very different churches with a range of ministries to their local communities.

Walkers (about 700 of them) are invited to start anywhere and go either way round the circuit, so that the participating churches see a steady stream of visitors throughout the day.  There is a (voluntary) quiz for walkers which focusses their attention on the history and communities of the areas they are passing through.

Unlock is a small Christian organisation which provides training and resources to churches and other groups to help them be more effective in ministering to their communities.  Recently a partnership with the Bible Society has been developed.  Nearly half of Unlock’s annual budget of £60,000 is raised through the London walk.

Although the main purpose behind the organisation of the walk is to raise funds for Unlock, just doing the walk is a great experience.  Anyone who is interested and able to join the walk is warmly invited, irrespective of sponsorship.  This year’s walk is on Saturday, 29th April.

You can find out more about the walk at:

from where you will be able to download pdf copies of the walk map, brochure and quiz.  Checkpoints are open between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm.

Just turn up; enjoy and be blessed!
