Service for Teachers in Liverpool

The National Conference of ATL (The Association of Teachers and Lecturers) will be gathering in Liverpool again this year, and conference proceedings will be prefaced by a Christian service at 6.30 pm on Palm Sunday 9th April.  This occasion provides an opportunity for conference delegates to commit to God the work of the conference and themselves to His service in their work as teachers.

The service will be held in St James in the City church, where a good number of students, teachers and others connected with education are to be found in the regular congregation.  The speaker on this occasion is to be the Rt Rev Paul Bayes, Bishop of Liverpool, the music will be led by the St James Worship Group, and various ATL members will lead other parts of the proceedings.

This service has been organised by Geoff Coggins, ACT Treasurer, and is open to anyone (particularly ACT members) who would like to attend.  You don’t have to be a member of ATL and you don’t have to be a teacher.

Full details can be found here:

After three years of negotiations ATL and NUT members have voted overwhelmingly to form a new union together, the National Education Union.

The rules of the NEU have been carefully formulated to incorporate what have been seen as the best features of each.  During a transitional period beginning in September the two unions will function in parallel, until the amalgamation takes full effect.  We hope that a Christian service will continue to be a feature at the start of Annual Conference.
