ACT - The Association of Christian Teachers
for Christians working in education
A recent blog was on becoming a school governor. I have been a Governor in various parts of the country and I am currently a Governor at a small Church of England VA primary school in Shropshire. Our governing body is made up of different types of people with differing life experiences and skills. Our current Chair is a parent Governor. As governors we share in the life of the school, supporting the staff and encouraging them as they seek to provide for the pupils. Recently OFSTED came and we were able to ‘be there’ for the staff, especially for the Headteacher who had been in post for five weeks. (We were rated ‘good’ by OFSTED.) In our secular world I believe it is very important that there is a Christian voice on our governing bodies, whatever the type of school. Lots of reading, some meetings, some ‘work’ but a very worthwhile and enjoyable ‘job’.
